Explore the world of songwriting and learn how to express your ideas through music. In this dual-language class (English and Spanish), you will experiment with different musical styles and collaborate with visiting artists to find your unique voice as a lyricist and composer. Two teaching artists will guide you through the process of recording your own song to share with family, friends, and future fans online.

What will the world look like in the future? How will technology change? How will those changes affect what you eat, how you travel, where you work, and what you do for fun? How will they affect your hometown of Providence? Imagine the future world as you and your peers create your very own science fiction comic book. Learn to translate aspects of your stories and illustrations into a large scale installation that will be displayed at the Rhode Island Museum of Science and Art.

Explore more complex shapes in clay in this hand-building and wheel-throwing class. Using basic techniques to throw cylinders, cups, and bowls, we’ll think about the role ceramics have played in various cultures and communities throughout time. We’ll also dream up ways we’ll use them in our everyday lives.

Public art is art that is outside and accessible to all. How do you create artwork that will be shown in public with people and for people? In this workshop, you’ll create large artworks with your peers and teaching artist. You’ll create visual art for a local park, design a mural for a local health center, and create artwork to showoff ¡CityArts! along Broad Street.

Create sellable visual art, textiles, art objects, and wearable art products to sell at ¡CityArts pop-up store throughout the year!

Mini Metropolis

Every city is unique, but all cities have people. They have houses where people live, and places where people work and play. Cities have streets and lots of ways for people to get around. How cities are planned makes a big difference on how people live in them. Working with mixed media, drawing, and sculpture, you will imagine, plan, and create your own mini-metropolis with your fellow young artists and teaching artist. What will your city be like?!
