Public Art

Ages 11-14

Tuesdays & Thursdays

4:00 - 5:30 PM

 

Public art is art that is outside and accessible to all. How do you create artwork that will be shown in public with people and for people? In this workshop, you’ll create large artworks with your peers and teaching artist. You’ll create visual art for a local park, design a mural for a local health center, and create artwork to showoff ¡CityArts! along Broad Street.

Ages 8 - 10

Explore more complex shapes in clay in this hand-building and wheel-throwing class. Using basic techniques to throw cylinders, cups, and bowls, we’ll think about the role ceramics have played in various cultures and communities throughout time. We’ll also dream up ways we’ll use them in our everyday lives.

Ever wanted to sell your one-of-a-kind creations? Now you can! In Artpreneur, you will  launch your very own small business. Learn art techniques in photography, drawing, printmaking, and more with your teaching artist. Hear from local creative business leaders on what it takes to sell and market your artwork. Create sellable visual art, textiles, art objects, and wearable art products to sell at ¡CityArts pop-up store throughout the year!

Every city is unique, but all cities have people. They have houses where people live, and places where people work and play. Cities have streets and lots of ways for people to get around. How cities are planned makes a big difference on how people live in them. Working with mixed media, drawing, and sculpture, you will imagine, plan, and create your own mini-metropolis with your fellow young artists and teaching artist. What will your city be like?!

Develop techniques in illustration, mixed media, and animation! Learn to create animated sequences by making flip-books, drawing on whiteboards, and creating paper cut-out puppets with moveable limbs. You'll also design scenic backdrops for the Manton Avenue Project's upcoming plays!

Exploring Sculpture is an introductory workshop in 3-dimensional art. We'll use materials - such as clay, plaster, cardboard, paper, wood, and textiles - to create sculptures that reflect our perceptions of the world.

Develop techniques in illustration, painting, and mixed media as you work with the young playwrights of the Manton Avenue Project! We will collaborate on play scripts and create play backdrops and props. This class will culminate in a public performance which will showcase youth playwriting and their collective theatre design.
